The start of a new season....

But instead of beautiful falling leaves, here in Arizona it's " same old, same old". But I'm really not complaining. The hot 3 digit temperature is fading into a nice relaxing way of life for me.

Anyway, Thanksgiving will be upon us in no time, I'm sure! I just returned from another excellent 'working vacation' at Rancho La Puerta -- a health spa and resort in Tecate, Mexico -- where I have visited and performed 3 times before.  The difference this time was that they gave me my own "concert evening" in a special building they have for performance and musical events.  I also provided entertainment for a couple of evenings at their wine bar, "Bazaar del Sol."  It was an amazing trip!

A good friend of mine featured me in her book about the music business. Keep an eye out for this book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble  and all the other book sites!

And as for me, I'm very grateful to say that I'll be staying out of trouble. I'll be busy! Here's what I have coming up: If I'm going to be in your area, please stop by!

Well as a friend told me nothing could be more true than with this picture. She laughed after she saw the vacation pics from last month. The beautiful ocean. My beautiful girlfriend. A drink in my hand.(Which is extremely rare for me) I was really livin' it up.

Now, just a few weeks later you see me  singing my heart outside in the heat. There's even a jar for tips. I guess the message is not to ever take yourself too seriously. Or, one day you're flying high and the next...? It made me laugh too. But, for all the things she noticed in this photo she left out a few of the most important things.

True, there was no beautiful ocean or boats. But look at the reflection in the glass window. Who is there taking my picture? Yep, my girlfriend is there taking the very picture we were talking about. A photo of me doing what I'm so thankful to have the opportunity to do in the first place.

Now I know the history of Labor day and stand by it's significance to workers throughout the country, But, on a personal note this Labor day, I couldn't be happier or more grateful to be able to work. To Labor. To have the chance to make someone feel better through a song. Or, just be able to have a little bit of fun.

Don't get me wrong. I loved the beautiful getaway. But for me, it wouldn't mean a thing if I wasn't playing music. Oh and having a pretty girl by my side to accompany me and take pictures that inspire these posts ? I'd be insane to ask for more.

Have a great  3 day weekend!

rockin through the very end of summer

Well, we're approaching the end of summer.  That's great news for me, because -- just a friendly reminder ;) -- summer is intensely hot in Phoenix.  So lots of folks leave town, which means less business in local restaurants and bars, and less work for performing musicians.  And Fall is shaping up, I'm grateful to say!  I have many solo shows coming up, and with Ant Farm I expect at least a few "brick and mortar" gigs before December, plus a few Facebook Live shows, and recording our new songs!  Lots to look forward to!  So as you prepare for Autumn and the Holiday Season, keep an eye out for me and Ant Farm!  Ok, I did manage to escape the heat and have some fun on the beach too.

"Change your thoughts and you can change the world!" (The Buddha)

and if you can't change the world, you can at least enjoy your life!

Because of some recent posts or statements I've made and gigs that I've had, I'd like to tell you a little more about my spiritual philosophy and beliefs.  After all, if you're going to invest time in listening to my music, you may as well have some idea about it!

Those who know me well know that I've been involved, both musically and personally, with three "Unity" churches over the past 13 years.  I won't bore you with the details of the Unity belief system (although you can see them if you go to their main website), but I will say it's based mostly upon the Judeo/Christian Bible and Jesus Christ's teachings.  But in a nutshell, let's just say that it's a lot more open than Catholicism, and a little more directed than Unitarianism.  What I want you (the reader) to know is that I believe God is in everything and in everyone, even if they're not showing it!! (lol)  And because of this, we each have access to "Spirit," or "The Unseen Power," or "The Force," or however you prefer to define It.  All we have to do is be open and receptive to It, and be willing to use It for good.  I also believe that each of us has a personal "contract," if you will, with God to live his/her purpose here on this planet while he/she is in this particular "skin suit," as some call it.  And it's up to each of us to figure out what that purpose is and follow it.

Well, now you have a good idea of where I'm coming from and what's behind most of the messages in my music.  Of course, I don't require that you agree with my philosophy and spiritual beliefs to listen to the music I create  What I care about most is that the music I create helps you somehow, some way . . . I'm not picky about the "why's" and "wherefore's!"  ;)

"Take It Easy," and have a good day and a most excellent life!

"Hey there!  I'm headed up North for my quarterly trip to cool off and play my music for some new ears.  Cottonwood hotels are all sold out this weekend, and I don't know why. But I hope it means a LOT of new ears.  Feel free to join me!  It's only 90 minutes North of Phoenix."

New Things!

Spring is always very poignant for me, but ultimately hopeful and happy.  My Catholic upbringing -- even though I'm not practicing anymore -- celebrates renewal, but only after significant loss.  I guess that has helped me "keep it real."  My first, recently-released solo CD, "Altitude" is very hopeful, but that's out of my desire not to get stuck in darkness and despair, which is a really easy thing for me, personally, to do!   But it's really important to acknowledge the reality of loss and suffering, but equally important not to be trapped by it.  I guess that's why I choose to remain hopeful . . . to see the buds, even if they're hidden in the branches!  Belated Happy Spring, and an Early Happy Summer!

If you don't already know, I was in an original-music band called Ant Farm through almost all of the 90's here in Phoenix.  As of about a year ago, we've reunited:  Myself, J.C. (John Chavez) on
guitar, and Dan Feldman on drums.  We've had a few gigs, here and there so far, but my hope is to "get the ball rolling" on our project once again, in addition to J.C.'s and my other full-time music endeavors.  I believe creation is where the real magic is, and I believe in all the music we've created together.  As I write this, we're working towards recording a new album.  I hope you'll check us out online (www.reverbnation.com/antfarm3, or on Facebook: "Ant Farm Redux"), and come see us perform sometime in the near future.

May you be happy & free,
Rob

I know it's the same show that I am promoting but it's really going to be fun....So, come check us out. I said if you lived in the phoenix area. I've changed my mind regarding that. I now feel that if you live anywhere in N. America, it will do you a world of good if you drive, hop on a bus, book a plane or a train and get to phoenix to see ant farm next
Friday night. I will be looking forward to see you all
& taking names of those not there!
